The only thing worse than being bored is realizing that you are the cause of that boredom. Do you feel like your life is unfulfilled or as though others are uninterested in your presence? Perhaps you practice a few habits that seem harmless but can cause a negative social life. Here are some reasons why you could be considered boring.
1. YOU ARE NOT ASKING ENOUGH QUESTIONS
Enough with the typical ice-breaker questions. Rather than asking, “What are some facts about yourself, try something along the lines of, “What piece of media (book, movie, TV show, etc.) that changed the way you viewed the world? In what way?” That person will not only be caught off guard with an unusual yet intriguing question, he or she will find you more interesting. Also, asking unique questions will give you unique answers, and this will spark your imagination and outlook on life even more.
2. YOU ARE LAZY IN YOUR SOCIAL SKILLS
Along with asking interesting questions, keep it going by engaging in an interesting conversation. Don’t be afraid to laugh, smile, relax, and let your true self shine through every conversation.
3. YOU’RE A COMPULSIVE HOMEBODY
Although it’s crucial to take time for yourself with a solo Netflix, spa, and wine night, there can always be too much of a good thing. Be sure you step out of the house and enjoy your friends and the outside world.
4. YOU DO NOT READ
Whether it’s changing an author or moving to a completely different subject, It’s important to switch it up and keep your mind guessing. You’ll also have something new to talk about at your next networking event.
5. YOU DON’T HAVE A DIVERSE FRIEND GROUP
You are who you spend your time with; therefore, personalities, whether they are positive or negative, will eventually rub off. Surround yourself with others whom you find interesting. Like reading an interesting book, interesting friends with spark a fruitful mind.
6. YOU ARE BEING REPETITIVE
Stepping out of your comfort zone can be difficult at first, but that’s why it is called a “comfort zone”. Try different foods, practice new daily routines, or travel to a destination that you’ve never thought of going. Switch up your habits to keep yourself entertained as well as others intrigued with your life. Be that person who is full of surprises.
7. YOU HAVE A STAGNANT LIFESTYLE
Again, switch things up. There’s certainly nothing wrong with living the 9-to-5 lifestyle. But be sure to take exotic vacations, participate in cool hobbies, and try unique activities with your friends to spark your lifestyle.
8. YOU ARE LIMITING YOURSELF
The only person who’s stopping you from living your best life is you. The only way that you can switch to an interesting life is if you change your boring beliefs and mindset.
9. YOU ARE NOT BEING TRUE TO THYSELF
As the saying goes, “It is better to be a first-rate version of yourself than a second-rate version of someone else”. Not only will being yourself allow you to be appreciated and comfortable to others, but it will help you enjoy life in the long run.
10. YOU’RE NOT PRACTICING THE GOLDEN RULE
You need to put yourself in the shoes of others. Being selfish has to be the number one trait of a bore. What is life if you only think about yourself and ignore the thoughts and feelings of others? Not only will this toxic habit turn others away, but it will close your mind to new ideas and restrict a fulfilling people in your life.
