5. Fifty Shades Darker (In theaters February 10th)

I have read not one, not two, but all three volumes in E.L. James’ Fifty Shades trilogy. Did I like the books? No. Did I like the first film? No. Am I into all things S&M? Definitely not. So why am I recommending this movie? Let’s just say that, like the old bromide, I believe the second time’s the charm and leave it at that.  But, in the end, the choice of whether or not to see this movie is entirely up to you.

4. Everybody Loves Somebody (In theaters February 17th)

Why is it so hard to make a good rom-com these days? Everywhere you look, you see the same cookie-cutter clichés and the same fairy-tale endings. But while “Everybody Loves Somebody” screams cookie-cutter, I find that the central cast – and “How to Get Away with Murder” star Karla Souza, who plays the leading role – to be a breath of fresh air.

3. A Cure For Wellness (In theaters February 17th)

For all you thrill-seekers out there, this psychological horror film is bound to keep your heart racing. If you’re faint of heart and would rather see something a little less horrifying, that’s fine. I, on the other hand, am intrigued by the “Mystery of the Wellness Center” and am waiting to find out how said mystery is solved. And I think the thrill-seekers should be too.

2. Lovesong (In theaters February 17th)

Nothing in life, not even love, is black and white. “Lovesong,” which revolves around the unspoken intimacy between two college friends, makes this abundantly clear. The chemistry between leading ladies Riley Keough and Jena Malone not only makes you care, but also makes you wonder if their relationship will ever blossom.

1. A United Kingdom (In theaters February 10th)

With “Hidden Figures” having been released in December and “The Zookeeper’s Wife” being released in April, the spotlight is shining down on films that explore untold stories. “A United Kingdom” – which chronicles the relationship between Botswana’s inaugural President and First Lady – is bound to be another stellar addition to Amma Asante’s repertoire…and is bound to remind us that every untold story deserves to be told.

Whatever genre you and your special someone are into, be sure to make this Valentine’s Day a memorable one. See you at the movies!
