DINING BY DESIGN (DBD), the design industry’s most anticipated fundraiser to fight HIV/AIDS, returned to Pier 92 in New York City. Hosted by DIFFA:Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS (DIFFA), the annual event gathers local and international brands and designers to create a showcase of extraordinary dining vignettes and to raise awareness for a worthy cause. DBD raises nearly one million dollars annually and draws thousands of designers, notable guests and avid supporters.
Co-located with the Architectural Digest Design Show, and held annually in March, DIFFA’s signature event gathers thousand of supporters to fundraise for a cause. DIFFA invites local and international designers to transform a raw space into a showcase of over-the-top dining environments for this annual fundraiser.
Award-winning interior architect Lauren Rottet, FAIA, FIIDA, and founding
principal and president of Rottet Studio, debuts a table at the annual DINING BY DESIGN fundraiser for DIFFA: Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS that incorporates her unique aesthetic inspired by art, fashion and commercial design. The purplish-blue chamber she has designed features textured surfaces that highlight Dutch still-life, botanicals and a floral installation that gesture toward tradition while adding a futuristic flourish. “In lavender fields under midnight sky, donned in blue velvet and crowned with lilac buds, we dine in monochromatic saturation, to unite in our fight against HIV/AIDS,” says Rottet. It was created in collaboration with S. Donadic Inc Construction Management and Fendi Casa.
For 25 years Rottet has designed award-winning interiors for Fortune 100 companies including offices for Bill Gates, Goldman Sachs, the NYSE, United Talent Agency and Viacom. The Texas native has also created numerous hospitality projects in her signature oeuvre for top-tier international brands including St Regis, Kimpton, Montage, Marriot and Four Seasons Hotels as well as significant residential projects. “The HIV/AIDS epidemic continues to affect millions across the country and around the world,” says Cindy Allen, DIFFA Board Chair and Editor-in-Chief, Interior Design. “DINING BY DESIGN is DIFFA’s biggest fundraiser showcasing the most thought-provoking and creative installations, done by the industry’s greatest talent. The whole five-day event is a celebration what we do best: dining, designing, and making a DIFFA-rence!”
The annual event brought over 40,000 guests to experience an array of dining installations by more than 30 designers, architects, manufacturers and brands. Participants transformed a raw space into an immersive exhibit representing a unique concept.
