A Guide To Luxuriate in Puglia, Southern Italy

A Guide To Luxuriate in Puglia, Southern Italy

written by Christine Philip August 13, 2019

Dubbed “the new Tuscany” and rivaling Italy’s other renowned areas Amalfi Coast, and the Italian lakes, lies the stunning region of Puglia. Located down south by the ‘boot heel’ of Italy, Puglia is best known for its picturesque coastlines between the shimmering Adriatic and Ionian Seas, whitewashed hill towns, rich history, and baroque architecture. Celebs seem to have tapped into this ancient paradise as Madonna celebrated her 59th birthday here recently, and Justin Timberlake’s wedding to Jessica Biel took place in Borgo Egnazia.

We’re going to show you how to luxuriate in Puglia by discovering hidden secrets from delicious restaurants, to must-see UNESCO heritage sites, to discovering secret beautiful towns and secret beaches.  First step: Fly into Bari or Brindisi.

DINE ~ Dinner in a Cave, Grotta Palazzese

Grotta Palazzese

Located in the heart of Polignano A Mare and situated on a scenic cliff overlooking the sea, rests the famous Grotta Palazzese. The terrace has been created within a natural cave, from which it takes its name, a place known and used for parties and banquets since 1700. Famous, to regard, it is the watercolor of Jean Louis Desprez of 1783. The menu is a prix fix, starting at 140 Euros. Must make a reservation, Via Narciso, 59, 70044 Polignano a Mare BA, Italy

See ~ Beaches, Trullis, Secret Towns!

Luxuriate in Puglia by continuing your journey where life came to fruition; at the shores. Gargano will welcome you with its crystal clear waters while drawing you inland through its thick greenery and rocky cliffs. As you journey farther through the secret caves, the picturesque fishing villages will come into sight brimming with color and activity. Enjoy fresh caught delicacies while looking onto the cobblestone streets where, for hundreds of years, many before have done the same. After a refreshing swim on one of the many beaches in Puglia, get lost in the maze that is the city of Ostuni. The narrow streets adorned with stacked white buildings is only 8 kilometers away from the Adriatic Sea. Journey back in time while pursuing local craftsman shops, cafes, churches, and immerse yourself in the deep history that this region holds.

Trulli of Alberobello
Trulli of Alberobello, A Unesco Heritage Site

Among all the beautiful cities and villas in Italy, Puglia offers that kind of beauty that can be enjoyed by a myriad of the senses. History, luxury, and tastes like no other, a worthwhile trip would be best spent soaking in the Adriatic Sea.

I love this luxurious approach to traveling to Italy. There’s certainly a lot of room for luxe vibes in this country and I would love to pack a bag and head to the airport during the winter for a mini vacay!
