Amankora offers a distinctive approach to luxury travel in Bhutan, with five intimate lodges positioned across the kingdom’s most dramatic and culturally significant valleys. Rather than treating each property as a standalone destination, Amankora connects Paro, Thimphu, Punakha, Gangtey and Bumthang through bespoke journeys designed to reveal the different character of each region.

The journey begins in Paro, where Amankora’s 24-suite lodge is surrounded by pine forests at an elevation of 2,250 metres. The property provides easy access to Tiger’s Nest, one of Bhutan’s most celebrated landmarks, while its two-storey spa, yoga studio and mountain views create a peaceful base for exploring the valley.

In the capital, Amankora Thimphu combines traditional Bhutanese architecture with contemporary comfort. The 16-suite lodge sits in a secluded pine forest overlooking the city and offers access to cultural attractions including the Buddha Dordenma Monument, monasteries, museums and textile workshops. Guests can also take guided hikes through the surrounding hills.

Punakha provides a very different setting. The lodge occupies a 300-year-old farmhouse in a lush subtropical valley, surrounded by rice fields and orchards. Its 29-metre heated infinity pool overlooks the landscape, while a two-storey spa provides space for relaxation after days spent exploring the region.

Further east, Gangtey sits in the serene Phobjikha Valley. With just eight suites, the lodge offers views toward the 16th-century Gangtey Goemba monastery and direct access to hiking and biking trails. Traditional Bhutanese hot stone baths add a distinctive wellness experience.

The final stop, Bumthang, places guests in Bhutan’s spiritual heartland. Its 16 suites overlook Wandichholing Palace and provide easy access to ancient temples, monasteries and pilgrimage sites. The region is also known for its art, crafts and Buddhist traditions.

Across all five lodges, the emphasis is on immersion rather than simply accommodation. Amankora’s hosts coordinate transportation, activities and cultural experiences, allowing travelers to move through Bhutan with a level of comfort that never completely separates them from the country itself. The result is a luxury journey defined as much by discovery, spirituality and landscape as by the lodges themselves.
