Sky Hotel – Nuclear Powered Plane That Could Be the Future of Vacations

It truly looks like something from a Sci-Fi movie. A video by the German video producer and science communicator Hashem Al-Ghaili has gone viral. It shows the concept of the Sky Hotel – a massive plane that can carry over 5,000 passengers and provides all the luxury amenities you might find on a luxury cruise ship.

The plane is powered by 20 electric engines that are fueled by nuclear energy. Nuclear fusion reactors are providing vast amounts of energy for the plane – so much that the Sky Hotel is supposed to remain in the air for several years without needing to refuel. How do you get on board? This is done by electric commercial airliners and private jets that connect with the Sky Hotel through an elevator. This is also how supplies and maintenance equipment get on board.

Are you afraid of turbulences? No problem. For once, the plane is so big that you probably won’t feel much to begin with. But there is more. The Sky Hotel will have an artificial intelligence, anti-turbulence technology that detects any air turbulence minutes before the plane flies through it and then creates counter vibration to neutralize the turbulence.

The plane is equipped with every luxury amenity imaginable. It has a massive swimming pool with a glass dome so you feel like swimming in the clouds. In addition, there are gyms, luxury restaurants, shopping malls, a theater and a state-of-the-art medical facility to keep guests on board safe. The main attraction is a 360-degree panoramic hall that can be reached with an elevator – expect breathtaking views of the sky and the earth.

While this is of course a concept and far from guaranteed to ever make it into the next phase of development, we are excited to see that the next step in the future of luxury travel is taking place.
